What bullshit. I was rooting for the Honda LMP2's to win, and if it wasn't for the damn 30+ minute caution, all because a car stalled on one of the runoff roads (5 min to tow it back, 25 minutes for the authorities to collect their heads out of their asses.
Yes, I'm glad Franchitti won for the first time at Sebring in 25 years, or whatever it was, that's great and all... but doesn't it lose some of it's glory if it's been tailored through cautions at the hands of NASCAR officials? I mean, when the green flag returned, he had a 7 second lead. In the following 15-20 minutes, Brabham was able to cut that down to a 2 second lead. If it weren't for the damn yellow, it wouldn't have been a competition whatsoever, and Brabham would have won with a comfortable lead.
I do not like this new USCC, Sam I Am. I do not like it with green eggs and ham.

Was there ever any kind of explanation as to why the yellows lasted so damn long? I had no particular rooting interest but the amount of time for a simple stalled car seemed ludicrous.

Race control is all pretty much IMSA folks. Hate to burst the NASCAR hating bubble, but the pit and waive around process they are using have been with IMSA for several years. I was rooting for the P2 car myself. Not a fan of DPs.

No, one of the Ferrari's in my wife's uncle's team was towed a few hours ago, and I think they had a ridiculous yellow then, too.

Yeah that caution was way too long for no reason. Is there something in the rules that state that there needs to be a 35 minute caution? It is horse shit

Yeah, true, but ALMS never was like this. I liked the DP cars about 5-10 years ago, but only the Porsche cars. Oh well. I didn't even know about this until it was half way through, I was waiting for F1. Should have gone and worked around the house instead, would have been much more productive.

I know, I don't have any knowledge of all the intricate workings of IMSA/NASCAR officials, but especially with the Don Johnson-esque Franchitti story on the radio while discussing the race didn't make it look suspicious at being rigged or anything...

Part of it has to do with the rules regarding the opening of the pit lane. I think IMSA's using Grand-Am's rules on that. They close the pits until the field closes up, then opens it one lap for Prototypes only, then the next is GT-Le Mans/GT-Daytona only, then anyone who wants to. Just doing that at Sebring guarantees a 20 minute caution. Then, you have wavearounds, which is another story that I'm just completely up on, but I'm sure it's playing a role here.
